Many people have been curious about the term Soulan aka “Soulaan” and what it means and who created the term Soulaan, Soulan? Soulaan meaning “Soul (Autochthonous) American” or “Soul Autochthonous Amorocco”. The term Soulan as defined by its creators T-Roy, Maroc, and Dwayne (Midnight), is an ethnic designation rather than a nationality. Soulaan is used to describe the autochthonous Black Americans of North America, specifically those who are descendants of Freedmen/ Mound Builders/ Pre-colonial people in the United States. The term "Soulan" pays homage to the deep cultural association between Black Americans and soul, symbolizing the "Soul people." Amorocco or A’marocco being a sovereign anti-colonial name for America.
This term distinguishes indigenous Black Americans who descend from the history of slavery in the U.S. but that is not our identity. This reflects our autogenisis.
